One operator, one small digger.

The 1.8 tonne tracked excavator was bought in 2018 for one reason: to do the jobs the big machines cannot get to. Driveways under a metre wide. Side returns between buildings. Back yards with one narrow gate. Sections where a 12 tonner would chew the lawn up doing the access alone.

Thirty years on the buckets before I bought my own. Eighteen with Otorohanga District Council operating a 12 tonner and various other machines. Thirteen with Water Services operating a 2 tonner. The small machine is where I have ended up by choice, not by accident.

What tight access actually means

• Under 1.0 m machine width at the tracks, so the standard side-gate is not a problem
• Lawns and driveways stay intact, no big steel-track gouges across them on the way in
• Working radius around 3.5 m, so the digger sits where the bigger ones cannot park
• Tipping into a small truck or wheelbarrow rather than a 6-wheeler that is blocking the road

• Trenching for drainage, irrigation, services into a finished section

What you get

You get me. I run the machine, I quote the job, I pick up the phone when you ring. There is no operator that has not seen the site, no apprentice learning on your driveway, no head-office sending out an unfamiliar face. Same person every visit.
